So... Lately I have been considering my blog. I've been thinking about to expand it, make it better, increase my readership, increase my exposure and to make it more appealing. I read a lot of blogs and I often feel left behind. I don't stage photoshoots, my camera and photoshop skills are certainly lacking and I don't feel like I do as good of a job as I could showing who I am through my blog.
I've also failed to be a good member of the blog community. I don't visit as many blogs as I should and I certainly don't comment. I simply don't have as much time as I used to. Before Ella arrived, I could spend an hour a night on blogs but now I want to spend as much time as I can with her so my blog time is seriously diminished.
I considered just shutting the blog down very briefly. Actually it was a fleeting thought because I really don't want to and I think I would miss the community way too much.
So where do I go from here? I really need to step it up. I am preparing for a big blog redesign in March and I'm thinking about changing my approach and style. This is where you come in. I want some genuine feedback on L&L. Don't worry you will not hurt my feelings. I am a lawyer. I can take it.
What do you like about L&L?
What don't you like about L&L?
What sort of posts are you interested in?
What sort of posts are you not interested in?
Is there a certain topic you enjoy or do not enjoy? Baby style? Gift ideas? Cute things? Interior design? Books (wait, I don't have time to read anymore)?
What about the blog design? I am definitely changing it but I am open to suggestions on improvements I can make there.
Are there series or features you would like to see?
I really would like some genuine feedback as I start changing things in the next several weeks so hit me with it. I really would like some feedback.

Sometimes I think too many people (including me at one point) get caught up with the idea their blog has to be a business, or super unique, or generate a certain number of hits a day. Why can't it just be for fun, when you have time? I let myself off the hook on those ideals I mentioned a long time ago, and now I love my blog for what it is! I feel part of the community and get my creative fix without feeling pressure! You will never see an ad on my site, it will never win an award, and won't often have pictures get pinned to Pinterest, but I enjoy it and that is enough! :) I love your blog and hope figure out what it has to be for you to be happy! My advice is just do it for you and not for others!
I agree with Sara's advice! Currently, I'm taking a bit of a break from my blog, but I still enjoy reading others' blogs. You just have to do what is right for you and post when and what you feel like.
I feel your pain!! I am having the same thoughts. I recently stopped blogging for 8 months and I feel like I am starting over, it is a little frustrating but I keep telling myself I blog because I enjoy it although more followers wold be nice. And with your blog, I like the personal storis best. I don't need to see magazine articles reprinted, I like the personal touch which I think you do a great job with!! xoSissy
Thanks guys! I have tried to make the blog more personal in the last several months. I used to do the magazine thing a lot and I have consciously tried to get away from that. Thanks for the feedback!
The only thing I have thought I would appreciate you changing is (and I know this is time consuming) instead of just putting the source for items you love, making it so I can just click on it and go to the actual item, not just the general website. Small thing but it's often annoyed me a little, because you have great taste and it's so much nicer to go right to that item. I like the mix of topics, etc. I agree with you that the next step with photography would probably help, but I am a terrible photographer and I understand that's a big step. THis is if you want to make it more than just for fun. If it's fun the way it is that's ok too!
I took a hiatus from design blogging last year while I was planning my wedding and now that I'm back, I've noticed that many of the bloggers who I considered daily reads from 2008-2011 have vanished.
I think you have to give yourself permission to let the blog evolve as you evolve...unless you want it to pay the bills and in that case, you have to be strategic.
I never monetized by blog because I wanted it be be whatever I needed it to be (and not what I promised advertisers it would be).
Do whatever you want! Take a break, reduce your posting frequency...just don't leave for good. I don't think I can handle yet another veteran going away. :)
I really enjoy reading your blog- pls keep writing! I think you have great taste!
