I entered mommyhood proudly stating that my child's toys would not take over my house. Please see below.
My baby girl does not like for anything to be in a container and pulls all of her toys out of the bins when she gets a chance. I use this oversized bins from Restoration Hardware Baby & Child in her room and I have one big bin in our living room to store all of her toys. As her first birthday approaches I am sensing there is going to be an overflow of toys and I am in need of some toy management strategies.
How do you store your children's toys?
Do you have any rules or guidelines for toys? Do you toss toys every time they get something new? Even if you don't have a baby, what would you do?
So far, I haven't had to make any tough decisions but things are going to start getting out of hand and I need inspiration.

Aww. Again, I have no advice, but I'm sure some of your other lovely readers will!
Jessica,
What is working for me right now is every time Nicolas gets a new toy, I get rid of an old one. With my oldest I never followed this rule and I found myself overwhelmed with a massive amount of toys he never played with. With two boys and another due to arrive at the end of this month I cannot stand the clutter anymore. Hope this helps :)
I heard a really cute idea the other day: on Christmas Eve, your child puts out a certain number of their old toys to give to Santa to take to other boys and girls who will play with them...in exchange, they get some things from Santa.
As far as storage, I use these lidded baskets from Pottery Barn: http://www.potterybarn.com/products/havana-lidded-baskets/
I have been consigning some of our toys lately or giving them away. It just gets out of control really fast.
I think controlling the toy clutter is something every mom struggles with :)
I hate to say it only gets worse as they get older with small things like Barbie accessories and Legos. I use a lot of plastic storage bins to organize and I also get rid of stuff periodically that they don't play with or is broken. I do this while they are at school though. As they outgrow things that you want to keep, you can pack that away too.
Good Luck!
